What exactly has the pandemic brought us?
2024-01-31
It’s been 26 days since Wuhan was locked down. In regions somewhat distant from Wuhan, people have gone from initially being completely indifferent to gradually becoming anxious—and now, they’re downright restless. Even grocery shopping has taken on the feel of a leisurely excursion. We’ve already been fighting this epidemic for nearly a month. Normally, we’d long since be in full swing, immersed in intense work—but instead, our pace has slowly slowed down. While my wife can afford to slow down, anxiety continues to grip many others. After all, we don’t live in a self-sufficient agricultural society. We’re about to face economic pressures following the pandemic, and those pressures are hardly any easier to bear than the pandemic itself. Every day, the news reports on losses suffered by various industries. As manufacturers of self-service equipment, we’ve been receiving wave after wave of calls urging us to expedite orders—and countless inquiries about whether the pandemic will affect the deployment of our machines, starting from the 10th onward.
As the original company behind unmanned retail, we’ve been reflecting a lot and would now like to share our thoughts with everyone.
First, as the Chinese people under the leadership of President Xi, we have confidence in our country’s strength. The economic challenges we’re facing are only temporary and short-lived—they won’t undermine our nation’s long-term upward trajectory, nor will they affect the industries in which we’re deeply involved. We should have full confidence in this year’s unmanned self-service industry.
Second, although the pandemic is still ongoing, the number of inquiries we’ve received—both domestically and internationally—has increased compared to the same period last year. As the brick-and-mortar dining industry struggles, people have become increasingly interested in the unmanned self-service sector. After all, unmanned self-service equipment sells products without requiring direct human-to-human contact, significantly reducing interpersonal interactions. A major domestic operator of self-service coffee machines not only donated funds to the hardest-hit areas but also directly deployed self-service coffee machines to several designated hospitals in Wuhan, providing free coffee to medical staff. Such heartwarming initiatives have not only touched many people’s hearts but have also highlighted the advantages and promising future of unmanned self-service coffee machines.
However, we must learn from this epidemic and further enhance the software and hardware capabilities of our equipment, ensuring that it is better suited to operating environments under all circumstances. After all, even though these are self-service machines, we still cannot completely eliminate indirect human-to-human contact—for instance, should we switch from selecting items by touching screens to ordering via mobile phones? There are numerous hygiene and epidemic prevention issues we need to take into account. Although our machines feature a 24-hour UV disinfection environment inside, they still require manual replenishment and maintenance. We need to leverage the monitoring functions built into the equipment’s software to help operators standardize the behavior of their maintenance staff. The operation and maintenance of these devices directly affect beverage hygiene and user safety, and no carelessness whatsoever is permissible. Self-service machines are often found in high-traffic areas such as schools, hospitals, train stations, and other crowded places; therefore, they must be even safer and more hygienic than any other type of equipment. The line between pandemics and civilization is but a single flight away. We must remain vigilant at all times. Though the pandemic will eventually pass, we must never forget the lessons we’ve learned. Let us work together to safeguard our country, protect our people, ensure food safety, and secure the future of the unmanned self-service industry.
